Jammin’ Juniors
We know kids have many activities, and we strive to make our classes something they choose to keep in their lives for a very long time. We offer a full range of classes for the kiddos that love to explore activities and try new things. Packed full of fun, we keep the 7-10 year olds jammin’ in their diverse set of classes!
What Parents Can Expect
Ages 7–10 are when dancers begin discovering what they really enjoy and where they want to grow. Our Junior program gives students room to explore different styles while building strong technique, confidence and independence.
Classes are taught by qualified adult instructors who understand how to challenge dancers without rushing them. In ballet, tap and jazz, students build the technique that supports more advanced training. In AcroDance and aerial silks, strength, flexibility and skills are developed through structured progressions with an emphasis on proper preparation and safe execution.
Whether your child wants to try several styles, focus on a favorite or pursue additional performance opportunities, we’ll help guide them toward the classes and level that fit them best.
Junior Level 1
7 & 8 Year olds
Burgundy
Junior Level 1 is the first time students get to experience Jazz, and they absolutely love it! The class is broken into two sections: 45 minutes of ballet technique, and 45 minutes split between jazz and tap. In this two year level, students are in class for a total of an hour and a half and begin to really dive into ballet technique with turns and leaps.
Junior Level 2
9 & 10 year olds
Hunter/SAge
Our Junior Level 2 program is a combination class that includes an hour split between tap and jazz and an hour of ballet with an introduction to Prepointe. Prepointe is bridge between ballet technique and pointe. Dancers wear special prepointe shoes during barre exercises only, and always on two feet. In this two year level, the dancers learn how to strengthen their ankles and increase the flexibility in their feet to allow for a seamless integration into pointe when they are ready.
Junior Hip Hop
Hands down, this is our most popular class. The kids learn fun, upbeat kid (and parent) friendly moves that keep them boppin’ all night long. This is the perfect class for kids just beginning or our seasoned dancers, looking for a little variety in their training. Kids move (and sing) along with popular favorites while staying active and having a blast!
Junior & Advanced Acrodance
Acrodance is the perfect marriage of dance and tumbling, using exercises built around strength and flexibility with graceful transitions. Similar to floor routines in gymnastics, acrodance uses music to help the movements flow together and has more style and grace than power tumbling. We are a certified Acrobatic Arts studio and are proud to bring this curriculum to our students. Children 7 and up will progress through the Junior and Advanced levels upon mastering certain skills. Every child moves at their pace through our program!
Silks
JJunior Silks builds strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness while introducing increasingly challenging aerial skills.
Students learn through progressive skill development, with an emphasis on proper technique, preparation and safe execution. Silks is a great complement to dance and AcroDance training while also building focus, confidence and endurance.
Boys Hip Hop
This high-energy, boys-only hip hop class gives dancers ages 7 and up the chance to build rhythm, coordination, confidence and hip hop skills in a class designed just for them.
No previous dance experience is needed. Students learn age-appropriate movement and choreography while developing focus, discipline and creativity in a supportive, upbeat environment.
Boys Hip Hop is one of our most popular classes with both students and parents.
Musical Theatre – Junior Level (Ages 7 & Up)
Junior Musical Theatre classes are designed for students ages 7 and up who love to sing, act, and dance. This energetic and expressive class builds confidence, character, and stage presence through games, choreography, vocal exercises, and scene work. Students develop performance skills while learning the fundamentals of musical theatre in a fun and supportive environment. No prior experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a love for storytelling on stage!
Junior Performers (Ages 8–10)
Junior dancers at Springfield Dance are eligible to audition for two productions per year with Springfield Dance Theatre. These experiences deepen their connection to storytelling through dance while refining technical skills and performance confidence. Select students from this age group may be invited into Pre-Company, where they begin training with increased focus and artistic intent—preparing them for full company opportunities in the future.
